A systematic review of acupuncture for sleep quality in people with insomnia

We provide an up-to-date systematic review and meta-analysis of acupuncture for insomnia.

Findings suggest acupuncture can improve sleep quality in terms of the PSQI compared to sham/placebo acupuncture and pharmacotherapy.

Positive results may be limited by heterogeneity and risk of bias.

Acupuncture was well-tolerated by people with insomnia.

Current results are promising but confirmation is needed in larger studies with improved methodological quality.
