Slices of medial nucleus of the trapezoid body were prepared form postnatal rats ranging from 4 to 11 days old and excitatory post synaptic currents (EPSC) were recorded. On 4 or 5 postnatal days (P4 or P5), EPSCs were small and showed multiple peaks. After P8, all the recorded EPSCs were large and had a single-peak. We studied postnatal development of presynaptic K+ channel by the use of K+ channel blocker. Before P8, 0.5mM 4AP enhansed synaptic transmittion, however after P10, it depressed the transmittion. This suggests that the current through the 4AP-sensitive K+ channel dominates during development between P4 and P11.
