p21Cip1 enhances pro-apoptotic E2F target gene expression in cancer cells. p21Cip1 enhances deregulated E2F activity in cancer cells but not in normal cells. p21Cip1 enhances cytotoxicity of ARF promoter-driven HSV-TK construct in cancer cells. Apoptosis induced by p21Cip1 in cancer cells is dependent on deregulated E2F activity.
