A laboratory study was measured syringe drawing forces acting against the thumb while varying syringe size, needle size and viscosity.
These forces were compared against the maximum acceptable thumb abduction for repetitive gavage tasks.
By using a smaller syringe and larger needle, a technician could perform more gavages per day, as compared to all other syringe and needle combinations.
