Ring-closing reaction of furan-based diarylethenes occurs in subpicosecond time range. Furan-based diarylethenes with thiophenyl-ethynyl side-chains have similar ring-closing dynamics to thiophene based diarylethenes. TD-DFT calculations of absorption spectra are in good agreement with experimental results. Excited open-ring diarylethenes with Sn (n > 1) might have different relaxation paths.
