We found how each block is warped by applying optical flow between the scaled and retargeted images. We formulated features to show the overall area and aspect ratio changes in salient regions. We formulated features to show the homogeneity of distribution of blocks with geometric shape distortions. We modeled local deformations in multi scaled blocks and strips. We used per-image normalization to make it possible to learn a generalized model on the set of training features.
