Future challenges for nursing require new competence sets to be defined. Patients of the future will have certain new care needs not covered by current nurse competence. Personalized care/medicine, telecare and global health are among the important new competences for future nurses. SSM is an appropriate tool for informing us about solutions to emerging real-world problem situations in nursing.
