In this review article, we present the historical development of the concept of predestination of fibers in the normal His bundle and the data which challenged this concept; Present the experimental studies demonstrating intra-His bundle blocks resulting in partial or complete heart block; Present the experimental methods for inducing bundle branch blocks due to ischemic or mechanical damage to the His bundle; Introduce the use of His bundle pacing to normalize the QRS when intra-His bundle blocks induce bundle branch block patterns in the electrocardiogram; Show the extension of the experimental studies to the clinical use of His bundle pacing.
