FPU/alumina aerogel composites are achieved via a freeze-drying method. Alumina aerogel provides non-flammability advantage over FPU foams. The char of FPU/alumina aerogel composites have low thermal conductivity. Flame retardant mechanism relies on insulation, retention and adsorption effects.
