For the first time, graded titanium carbide preforms were successfully fabricated by binder jet 3D-printing. Titanium carbide with various stoichiometries was synthesized. Ceramic/steel composites with gradually changing steel microstructure were obtained. The composites were fabricated by infiltration of porous 3D-printed TiC preforms with molten steel. Heat treatment allowed to obtain composites with hardness gradient of 700–1600 HV.
