PEEK is environmentally sensitive, leading to high wear under vacuum condition. Very low friction was obtained with graphite and CNT filled composites in hydrogen. Lowest wear rate was obtained with TiO2 particles both in vacuum and hydrogen. The formation of a transfer film on the disc is enhanced in vacuum and hydrogen. Chemical processes occur within the materials and at the tribocontact.
