Two PEEK composites filled respectively with short carbon fibers and nano-silica are assembled side-by-side. The assembled sample exhibits a much enhanced tribological performance in comparison to the individual composites. The assembled sample showed a performance comparable with the hybrid nanocomposite. When the assembled sample is slid against steel, a nanostructured tribofilm is generated. A new design concept of tribo-engineering components by assembling composites with specific functionalities is proposed.
