Two phosphorus-based compounds are encapsulated to be as flame retardants. Encapsulated flame retardants show good dispersity in the lithium-ion cathodes. Encapsulation improves the chemical stability of the flame retardants. Encapsulated flame retardants improve the self-extinguishing efficiency by 30–40%. The use of encapsulated flame retardants remains Li-ion cells with good performance.
