Swelling pressure test and consolidation tests were conducted at various temperatures. One divalent rich Indian bentonite and Rourkela local soil were tested. A new oedometer was designed and developed. Swelling pressures tests on compacted bentonite specimens of dry density 1.6 Mg/m3 and consolidation tests were conducted at various temperatures. Test were conducted to generate reproducible data. Dry density versus swelling pressure relationship was established using Gouy Chapmen diffuse double layer and Stern layer theory.
