We calculate the entropy production available for Earth's dynamo over time. Simulations include magnesium-bearing minerals precipitating from the core. Compositional buoyancy is required to accommodate plausible initial conditions. Earth's dynamo survives even if mantle convection is sluggish in the hotter past. Precipitation masks increase in entropy production after inner core nucleation.
