During the most manufacturing processes residual stresses are generated. To determine the characteristic of residual stresses in the material a direct measurement of the deformation during the hole-drilling method is helpful. Therefore, an alternative approach for strain measurement with fibre class="smallcaps">Bragg grating sensors is introduced. Additionally, the application for a plastic component is shown and the measurement procedure is described. Besides the experimental procedure the numerical implementation is explained. Concluding, the resulting experimental and numerical strain values are compared and discussed. These are the basis for the stress analysis with complex algorithms, which have to be adapted to tangential strain directions.
