Each kg/d of dairy meal fed was associated with 0.53 kg/d increased daily milk production.
Daily milk production was also positively associated with cow weight (0.13 kg/d per 10 kg), feeding DM in the month prior to calving (1.4 kg/d), and feeding high protein forage (0.41 kg/d), and was negatively associated with having mastitis (0.3 kg/d).
Taller cows had higher daily milk production than shorter cows, whereas 1st calf heifers had similar daily milk production regardless of height (interaction term).
Thin cows (score < 2.5 out of 5) produced less milk per day than cows with a better body condition score at calving, whereas thin heifers produced more milk than heifers in better body condition (possibly due to a small unrepresentative sample size of heifers) (interaction term).
