Synthesis, growth and characterization of l-citrulline succinate crystal for optical applications

New crystals of class="smallcaps">l-citrulline succinate (LCS) were grown from homogeneous solution by slow evaporation technique for the first time using water as a solvent. The lattice parameters of the grown crystals were determined by powder XRD technique. The cell parameters of LCS are a = 17.9174053 Å, b = 5.418055 Å, c = 9.186052 Å and the indexed pattern confirms that the grown crystal belongs to monoclinic in structure. The presence of various functional groups in LCS was identified by FTIR analysis. UV–visible spectral analysis was carried out to determine the optical transparency of the grown crystals and lower cutoff wavelength of LCS crystal occurs at 204 nm. The second harmonic generation efficiency of LCS crystal studied by Kurtz and Perry method is 0.15 times that of KDP. The TGA/DTA studies revealed that the LCS crystal is stable up to 159 °C.
