A window transmission technique for CAN is proposed and investigated.

A probabilistic analysis is developed for window transmissions when errors and bursts of errors are present.

Detailed stochastic simulations and experimental results support the analysis.

Results indicate window transmissions are more effective than message duplicates in most circumstances.

For long and infrequent error bursts, well-spaced duplicates can outperform transmission windows.
