A thermodynamic analysis of multistage compression of impure CO2 in CCS is performed.
Multicomponent mixtures of CO2 with N2, H2, O2, CO, H2S, SO2, H2O, CH4 and Ar are studied.
The Peng-Robinson EoS is applied to calculate properties of CO2 mixtures.
The power demands for compression, inter-stage cooling and liquefaction are quantified.
The compression power is shown to decrease with the CO2 stream purity.
