La2(Zr0.7Ce0.3)2O7 thermal barrier coatings prepared by electron beam-physical vapor deposition that are resistant to high temperature attack by molten silicate
La2(Zr0.7Ce0.3)2O7 coating is highly effective in arresting silicate glass attack. The resistance is mainly attributed to the formation of a dense interaction layer. The interaction layer composes of crystalline La-Ce apatite and C-ZrO2 phases. Molten silicate penetrates only ∼32% of the coating thickness after 24 h exposure. Conventional YSZ coating is fully penetrated after only 0.5 h corrosion.
