Around 20% of pedestrians are at high exposure of crossing the road while distracted. 18–30 year olds were significantly more likely to report high levels of exposure to distracted crossing. Positive attitudes were a strong predictor of intentions to cross while distracted and explained 40% of the variation. Mobile phone over involvement and group norms supporting mobile phone use while crossing added significant explained variance in intentions. Higher exposure to distracted crossing was significantly associated with strong intentions to cross while distracted.
