Differential expression of T. cruzi amastin genes results from regulatory mechanisms involving RNA binding proteins. TcAlba30 forms a complex with beta-amastin mRNA that is involved in the post transcriptional regulation of amastin genes. Increased expression of TcAlba30 in epimastigotes resulted in decreased expression of beta amastins.
