A gene encoding squalene synthase was isolated from Ornithogalum caudatum. Soluble expression of OcSQS1 was achieved in Escherichia coli. OcSQS1 was verified to have the ability to catalyze FPP to form squalene. The second TM domain was responsible for the proper folding of OcSQS1 protein.
