Contribution of large-sized primary sensory neuronal sensitization to mechanical allodynia by upregulation of hyperpolarization-activated cyclic nucleotide gated channels via cyclooxygenase 1 cascade
Large-sized DRG neurons (66%) show firing pattern switch and hyperexcitability in peripheral inflammatory pain state. The hyperexcitability and firing pattern switch are likely to be caused by increase in h current. Increased h current is mediated by overexpression of HCN1/2 proteins via COX-1/PGE2 cascade in large-sized DRG neurons. HCN channel-mediated hyperexcitability of large-sized DRG neurons contributes to mechanical allodynia.
