Upconversion luminescence properties of three-dimensional ordered macroporous CeO2: Er3+, Yb3+

Three-dimensional ordered macroporous (3DOM) Er3+, Yb3+ co-doped CeO2 and powder samples were prepared. The phase of the 3DOM sample was confirmed by XRD, and upconversion (UC) luminescence property was investigated. The results showed that green (527 nm, 548 nm) and red (659 nm) emission bands were observed in the 3DOM and powder samples under a 980 nm excitation at room temperature. It is interesting that the relative intensity of the red to green emission in the 3DOM sample increased in comparison with that of powder sample due to the increased non-radiative relaxation from 4I11/2 to 4I13/2 state in the 3DOM materials.
