The coordination of NO2− in myoglobin was characterized by resonance Raman. Density functional theory calculations were performed for myoglobin-NO2− complexes. Reversible transition between low and high spin FeONO/2-nitrovinyl species The spin-change is triggered by the change of the proximal FeNHis93 bond length.
