We studied the effect of deiodinase knockdown on zebrafish retinal development.

Defects are most prominent after knockdown of the inactivating deiodinase D3b.

Transcriptome analysis shows a clear effect on phototransduction and retinoid recycling.

Morphological defects include reduced eye size and photoreceptor number.

D3b knockdown leads to functional visual impairments.
