The proteomic and toxicological profiles of the Papuan black snake venom were investigated.

P. papuanus venom induced intravascular hemolysis, pulmonary edema, anticoagulation, and death.

P. papuanus venom proteome is dominated (90%) by a variety (n ≥ 18) of PLA2s.

Toxic activities of P. papuanus venom in mice were mainly due to the action of its PLA2 molecules.

Australian black snake and polyvalent antivenoms were effective in neutralising the toxic activities of P. papuanus venom.
