Dissolution of the inhibitor results in porosity in the coatings. Porosity network provides easy paths for the inhibitors to reach the metal substrate. Aggressive species reach the metal substrate through the porosity network. Corrosion products transport outwards through the porosity as well. Insoluble corrosion product or precipitated inhibitive salt film can fill the cavities left by the dissolution of SAPP in the coating.
