The relationship between alexithymia and pain was investigated in 159 FM patients. Alexithymic (vs. non-alexithymic) FM patients showed higher pain and distress levels. Alexithymia positively correlated with the affective (not sensory) component of pain. Anxiety significantly mediated the association between alexithymia and affective pain.
