A 3-stage ADR has been built for the Soft X-ray Spectrometer on Astro-H.
The ADR operates with either a superfluid helium tank or a 4.5 K Joule–Thomson cryocooler as a heat sink.
The ADR has been extensively tested in both cryogen and cryogen-free modes.
A thermodynamic assessment of its performance is presented.
The assessment includes cooling capacities and cooling power, as well as heat rejection and efficiency.
