Genetic deletion of galectin-3 enhances neuroinflammation, affects microglial activation and contributes to sub-chronic injury in experimental neonatal focal stroke
Galectin-3 (Gal3) protects from early injury after neonatal stroke. Gal3 is induced in activated microglia/macrophages. Lack of Gal3 attenuates microglial activation. Lack of Gal3 alters integrin expression and cell-extracellular matrix interactions.
