We found a cDNA sequence encoding a MIP peptide precursor, Plast-MIP. Plast-MIP1, 5 and 8 inhibit JH biosynthesis by the corpus allatum in P. stali. Dippu-ASTs do not affect JH biosynthesis in P. stali. Plast-MIP8 is detected in the brain by MALDI-TOF MS and MS/MS. Plast-MIP precursor mRNA is synthesized in the brain irrespective of photoperiod.
