miRNA microarray identified 149 of significantly altered miRNAs in the diabetic embryonic heart.

2111 of high-confidence miRNA targets were generated by a two-step bioinformatics approach and gene ontology indicated that the majority of the targets were associated with transcription.

Cardiac development-related pathways including STAT3 and IGF-1 pathways and transcription factors, for example, Cited2, Zeb2, Mef2c, Smad4 and Ets1, were altered by PGDM.

PGDM-induced oxidative stress leads to the alterations of miRNAs and their targets in developing embryonic heart.
