Ag thin film deposited on glass is completely transformed into nanoparticles by a single laser pulse. A film area of 10 cm2 can dewetted by a single pulse with energy of 850 mJ. The process provides a facile, scalable method of forming metal nanoparticle arrays for plasmonic applications.
