This study compares improvements in on-time performance measured by the percent of on-time gate arrivals and gate arrival delays at prioritized and non-prioritized metroplexes. Metroplexes include hub and non-hub airports. The implementation of NextGen programs coincided with the consolidation of the airline industry after the 2008 recession. The consolidation of the airline industry, NextGen programs, and airspace redesign allowed airports in prioritized metroplexes to manage arrival and departure demand, increase capacity utilization, and reduce the impact of airborne and airport departure delays in order to improve on-time performance.
