The sintering behavior of SrTaO2N under high pressure of nitrogen was studied using hot isostatic pressing equipment as a furnace. Some nitrogen was lost during high-temperature sintering to SrTaO2N0.7 even under 190 MPa of N2, changing the sample color from orange to dark brown or black as in the previous study with 0.2 MPa N2. The relative density (RD) was less than 90% and voids were observed in the sintered bulks. SrCO3 additive depressed the further decomposition of SrTaO2N0.7 and densification. Grain growth was much enhanced in the sintering at above 1500 °C with the decomposition leaving closed pores in the ceramics in case of the sintering without SrCO3 additive. Post-ammonolysis effectively compensated for the partial loss of nitrogen from SrTaO2N ceramics sintered below 1450 °C with RD<80% and recovered the insulating behavior with relative dielectric constants εr of 70–120 and tanδ<0.1. Their frequency dependence was also studied.
