Pb-Zn mine wastes around Um Gheig mine area, Eastern Desert, Egypt were studied. Five groups of metal sources can be identified by chemical/mineralogical patterns. Enrichment indices suggest contamination by Cd, Pb and Zn near the mine site. Flooding/erosion events lead to heavy metals accumulation at the downstream. Mine site rehabilitation strategies are prerequisite for future remediation.
