A stabilizer based on a pointwise min-norm control law has been proposed. The control law is based on nonlinear state space mathematical model of synchronous generator and takes voltage regulation into account. The proposed algorithm has been implemented in a digital control system and experimentally verified on a 83 kVA synchronous generator. The results were compared with the conventional excitation control structures – an AVR and an AVR + PSS2A stabilizer. Improved damping effectiveness has been achieved with the proposed stabilizer.
