Circulating microparticles are increased at high altitude compared to sea level. Briefly imposing oscillatory shear impairs endothelial function at high altitude. Endothelial function is worsened by endothelial injury at high altitude. Brief exposure to high altitude invokes a vulnerable endothelial phenotype.
