Cationic arene ruthenium metalla-assemblies of the general formula [Ru₄(p-cymene)₄(N, N′-L)₂(ox)₂][CF₃SO₃]₄ (1–4) and [Ru₆(p-cymene)₆(N, N′, N″-L)₂(ox)₃][CF₃SO₃]₆ (5) were prepared by the reaction of the dinuclear ruthenium complex, [(p-cymene)₂Ru₂Cl₂(ox)₂] (6) with a range of linear, bent bis-pyridine and trigonal tris-pyridine amide donor ligands (7–11) in methanol in the presence of AgO₃SCF₃. These new metalla-assemblies (1–5) were fully characterized by analytical techniques including elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, ¹H, ¹³C NMR spectroscopy, and HR-ESI-MS spectrometry. A UV–Vis study was also carried out for the entire range of metalla-assemblies.
