Terrain attributes computed from GIS tools are highly multicollinear. Terrain attributes can be ambiguously defined within GIS software documentation. Using 6–7 specific terrain attributes captures most of the topographic structure. They are related to slope, orientation, rugosity, relative position, and elevation. Their importance in describing a surface varies with surface complexity.
