An Eulerian model based on the Boltzmann equation of kinetic theory is developed.

The model is validated and calibrated with experiment data and field observation data.

The model well reflects animal preference to water velocity, depth, temperature, substrate and sediment concentration.

The model performs well in simulating the distribution of Chinese sturgeons in the Yangtze River.
