Endogenous progesterone may respond to social rejection. Personality and situational variables also affect progesterone following rejection. Opportunity for face-to-face interaction is a critical situational factor. Social anxiety and rejection sensitivity are critical personality factors. Social rejection (vs. acceptance) leads to cortisol increases.
