Expression levels of Pdx1 were decreased in Ins2Akita mice at the age of 4 weeks. A transgenic mouse model expressing Pdx1 specifically in β cells was generated. Glucose tolerance was improved in Pdx1-overexpressing (βPdx1; Ins2Akita) mice. Expression levels of β-cell specific mRNAs were recovered in βPdx1; Ins2Akita mice. Translocation of GLUT2 (SLC2A2) was restored in βPdx1; Ins2Akita mice.
