A 10 DOF lateral-torsional--rocking coupled nonlinear dynamic model of a single gear system is proposed.

The influences of geometric eccentricity, gyroscopic moment, teeth to the partial load torque and backlash on dynamic model are analyzed.

The stiffness of modification gear is studied by mesh model.

The optimal modification amount which minimizes the dynamic load is found, and can effectively reduce the mesh stiffness mutation and the dynamic load of gear.

The influence of optimal modification on contact rate of gears is negligible.
