Local environment of lipid droplets is monitored in cancer and non-cancer cells. Time-resolved confocal microscopy is used. Lipid droplets are less polar and display slower solvation compared to cytosol. Number of lipid droplets is higher in cancer cells. Significant differences in terms of polarity and solvation dynamics are observed.
