Structures of two uridine phosphorylases isoforms from S. mansoni in APO form and bound to different ligands is presented.

The kinetic analyses showed that SmUPa is a regular uridine phosphorylase but SmUPb presented no detectable activity.

Despite 92% sequence identity, the main difference resides at the active site, indicating different functions.
