The Early Messinian is marked by a very costal facies coeval of the Ksour Essaf and the Beni Khiar formations.

The Lago-Mare (LM1) sediments attested by brackish fauna exist in Eastern Tunisia.

The lack of Early Pliocene deposits is due to an uplift occurring since the Late Messinian.

Four erosional surfaces related to tectono-eustatic events occurred since Late Tortonian to Late Pliocene.

The Late Pliocene Transgression fossilizes the witnesses of the Late Miocene tectonic activity.
